How to Deal With the Distractions of Life, Especially the Greatest Distraction of All

Life can be one big distraction if we allow it to be. We can’t wake up in the morning without being distracted by something. Many of us wake up, and the first thing we do is reach for our cell phone. Our minds become consumed with the thoughts of the world. Some relevant to our well being, most not. So what can we do?

Whether it’s our phones, the television, money, family, or friends, we can become so distracted that our lives will literally pass us by without us realizing where the time has gone. We will wake up in the morning and become distracted, drive to work distracted, or sit at home utterly oblivious that we are wasting time looking in directions that won’t allow us to grow.

Life can be chaotic. Accept it and don’t allow it to attach its anchors to you.

We worry so much about money that we run in circles trying to earn enough without ever getting ahead. We take jobs we can’t stand, and we tell ourselves that we’ll do what we want to do “next year.” Sometimes next year never comes.

Chasing money becomes a vicious cycle when we don’t understand it. We focus on not having enough, which only leads to not having enough! Money comes and goes, yet we all find ourselves worrying about when it will happen again. It’s one of the most frustrating things we all deal with, and as much as we complain about it, it’s still relevant in all of our lives.

So what do we do? We can’t completely ignore the idea of it, or can we? We need the money, and it requires us. We need to be sure that our focus is on obtaining it more than not having enough of it. It’s simple. We get what we most think about. The answer, we need to stop worrying and believe more than anything that everything in our lives will be freaking amazing!

This is a challenge for all of us. It can be scary having more bills than money to pay for them. But we need to first understand that our current situation is our own choice.

Whether we feel trapped by money or not, we should never limit what we’re capable of. I’m not suggesting that we quit our job to take that dream vacation, at least not yet anyway. We can begin by taking baby steps. Start by unhooking the anchor and breathing again. Miss a day of work just because and do something good for the soul. We can retrain our brain to stop thinking we are a slave to money, and instead that money is our slave. It’s possible. And it’s straightforward, actually, but we need to release the fear and just do something, anything, differently!

Life is full of distractions, but that doesn’t mean we all need to be distracted. Self-awareness is essential in our lives, especially living in a time where distractions are abundant. We can all live lives that we can be OK with. Life without regret, but we must first take back control.
